Fire Pit Lounge and Garden Upgrade in Cornelia Neighborhood, Edina, MN
This outdoor lounge and garden upgrade project in Edina’s Cornelia neighborhood transformed an underutilized vegetable garden area into a comfortable, functional retreat designed for year-round enjoyment.
The homeowner was preparing for the installation of an outdoor sauna and wanted a dedicated space for relaxing, warming up, and gathering with family. The existing garden plot lacked proper structure, circulation, and foundation support for everyday use.
From Garden Plot to Relaxing Retreat
We began by carefully reworking the site layout and completing proper excavation and base preparation to establish long-term stability. This ensured the finished space would remain level and durable through Minnesota’s seasonal freeze-thaw cycles.
A crushed bluestone lounge pad was installed to create a soft, natural surface that is both comfortable underfoot and low maintenance. Large stepping stones were precisely set into the pad to provide clean access from the home and deck.
Thoughtful Design with Purpose
Custom corten steel planter boxes were integrated throughout the design to preserve garden space while adding architectural structure. At the center of the layout, a cylindrical corten steel smokeless fire pit was installed to provide warmth, ambiance, and visual cohesion.

Looking Ahead
