Retaining Wall Replacement in West Bloomington, Minneapolis

This retaining wall replacement project in West Bloomington, Minneapolis involved the full demolition and reconstruction of an aging two-tier wall system along a shared property line.

Due to a boundary dispute between neighboring properties, the existing structure needed to be completely removed and rebuilt. Once demolition began, it became clear that partial repairs would not provide long-term stability, so the decision was made to replace the entire system with new, structurally sound materials.

Full Wall Demolition & Rebuild

We dismantled both wall tiers down to the base and rebuilt the system using Belgard Diamond Pro block in Desert Tan. This material was selected for its strength, clean profile, and long-term durability. Replacing the full structure allowed for proper alignment, updated cap installation, and consistent structural reinforcement across both tiers.

Drain Tile Discovery & Rerouting

During demolition, an existing underground drain tile system was discovered and required rerouting to maintain proper water flow. Drainage is critical for retaining wall performance in Minnesota’s freeze-thaw climate, so the system was carefully redirected and integrated into the rebuilt wall to prevent water pressure buildup and soil movement.
